  • More evidence that society is going down the crapper.

So Bar Envy in my little town of Spring Hill, FL seems like pretty normal bar most of the time. 50 cent beers before 6pm, ladies drink free at certain times, and there are always specials on drinks coming and going. However, one thing that sets Bar Envy apart from other bars is that it has a teen night. Yes, you read that correctly. Every Sunday, a BAR has a TEEN NIGHT. A night where anyone aged 13 to 19 can enter the door. This isn't an under the table or secret thing either. There is a green van parked near the bar with a marquee on top that clearly advertises it.

Now I'm assuming alcohol is not served on these nights but are parents in this town really so stupid as to let their teens go unsupervised to bar? Alcohol or not, a bar is still a bar. Management at this venue plans and hosts bikini contests, wet t-shirt contests and foam parties (and believe me, as a 21 year old male, I know all about the advantages of a foam party) on the weekdays. I just can't believe that the city government would allow this, and that on top of that, parents would let their kids go to a place run by the same people?

Who the hell chooses to go to a bar where there is no drinking allowed (besides DD's, they're cool.)? Do people really need to go dance and party that badly? A six year age gap in two adults is one thing, but it is just plain wrong to provide a place where a 19 year old can meet and dance in a club/bar atmosphere with a 13 or 14 year old (on a Sunday night no less, don't they have school the next day?). And let's face it, we all know that more than just innocent dancing and chit chat go on at these types of places. I'm sorry, perhaps it was the way I was raised, but that just isn't decent or responsible.

What happened to the days when teens had house parties and sleepovers, and an exciting weekend with your friends consisted of pizza and a trip to the movie theatre? It seems like more and more kids want to grow up too quickly and be adults, which is something that I don't understand. I freaking loved being a kid. I didn't need to worry about how my hair looked or what I was wearing out to the club that night. My biggest concerns at the time were next week's geometry exam, and what video game I was going to play that weekend.

Next thing you know, they're going to start making lingerie and thongs in children's sizes.
    OH WAIT, THEY ALREADY DO
